Challenge

Problem

Security analysts often need to investigate large volumes of traffic using highly specific criteria, but existing filtering capabilities lacked the flexibility needed for complex investigations.

Solution

New operators such as Includes, Does Not Include, Starts With, and Ends With simplified common filtering tasks, while Regex enabled advanced pattern matching for more complex investigations.

Standard Filtering

Includes, Does Not Include, Starts With, and Ends With simplified common investigation workflows by enabling more flexible filtering without requiring advanced query syntax.

Advanced Filtering

Regex filtering expanded the platform's filtering capabilities by enabling advanced pattern matching for complex investigations. The experience was designed to fit within the existing filtering model while providing the flexibility needed for more specialized search and analysis workflows.

Validation & Guidance

Error handling, syntax validation, and contextual documentation helped users construct valid filters while reducing ambiguity and configuration mistakes.

Outcome

The filtering experience expanded how users could investigate traffic data by supporting both common and advanced query patterns. The work introduced scalable filtering capabilities while improving usability for a wide range of technical expertise.
